Set up in 2005 by a small group of UK and Tanzanian friends, The Hoja Project works in the six villages of Tanga Ward, one of the poorest areas of rural Tanzania.
Our programmes are diverse, but the overarching aim is to provide people with the means to leave behind the life of deprivation and poverty into which they are born.
We believe that any community is built on the success of its young people. Without the necessary skills to earn enough money, there is little hope for someone to work themselves out of poverty.
But help someone to increase their skills when they are young, and there is more chance that they will be able to bring up the next generation in better conditions.
This is why so far our project has mainly been focussed mainly on educational programmes.
We also run programmes that focus on helping the community in general, which are also meeting with considerable success.
